This is a good song. The chorus is catchy and the lyrics are easy to understand, fun, and tell a story. The change in the instrumental, from none to guitar to guitar and drums fits the change in tone throughout the song. I also personally like the sound of the singers’ voices together which adds to the song. It has a slight country style to it and I like it, but I understand it might not be for everyone

I really like this song. I think that this song is very different compared to some of the more famous songs that have come out. Most of the top songs right now are very upbeat and this song is different in that it gives a more country feeling which is very calming. It gives this feeling throughout the song and even in the chorus where it is a little more upbeat, it still gives you this feeling. I also really like the lyrics because they seem very genuine which is another thing that you don’t see that often in new music. Not everyone will like this song and would prefer the upbeat music that we hear a lot, but I think that it’s a change to the music that we’re used to nowadays.

I chose the song "pov" by Ariana Grande. I really like this song because the lyrics are really good and it's not too fast like how a rap song is. One lyric, "You know me better than I do. Can't seem to keep nothing from you," is saying that someone else knows you better than you know yourself. I think this is an important lesson for everyone because you should be the one to know yourself and not have anyone else know you better than you know yourself. I also feel like this song can be a little contradicting because it's saying you want to see yourself from a different perspective and that might not always be a good thing. This song is also a good song to vibe out to and a good song to sing in the shower or sing in the car. I think most people know what this song is and who the artist is but I think this song is very different from her other songs since it has a little bit of an R & B vibe to it.

  5. https://youtu.be/x7Kt_YAQQgM I really liked “Cool For A Second” because it not only has a nice, light melody, it’s lyrics accurately represent the sort of melancholy I throughout pretty much the entirety of 2020. It’s also the type of music I like to listen to when I’m working or just hanging out alone, so that also added to the interest! The overall vibes of the song are very chill and I feel like I could just listen to this while I sit on the beach and I ponder about life...anyways, I highly recommend it!

I chose "POV" by Ariana Grande because I personally really like her as a singer. I feel like that impacted my choice on which song I picked for this assignment. Along with the good rhythm and melody, I really like the lyrics that is being delivered to the audience. Implying self-confidence and to see yourself as a better individual, it made me admire this song even more. However, needing someone else's gaze in order to receive some confidence was really relatable and made me ask some questions to myself and the society.

On every Ariana Grande album, you can find a singular personal, slower song (example being “ghostin” on her ‘Thank You, Next’ album). In “Positions”, it is “pov”. Its refreshing to listen to compared to Ariana’s other songs that are fast and upbeat. This is my favorite song from the album as the lyrics are a lot more relatable compared to others. Its a lot more mellow compared to the other songs on the album, but its what makes it so appealing. People can relate to the lyrics because it brings up the idea of self-love and the struggle behind it. While you can really resonate with the lyrics, while listening you are able to simply vibe to the song as its a perfect song to sing to.

I thought that the BTS song was pretty well done for a Korean Group of singers. I would have never thought that a group like BTS would have been able to create an all english song and sound fluent and catchy. The song is in a up beat pop genre which would be immediately popular among most people. I thought that the song was really catchy due to the lyrics being easy to follow along and sing along to. It is easy to see how the song could be mistaken for an american group of singers because of how fluent the singers are in english. For being their first full english song I found song very catchy and an easy listen. I thought the song was very different from what I expected from a korean group of singers. Overall a good song to vibe to and something to bring up the mood.

“Break My Heart” by Dua Lipa is a song that embodies the overthinking of an individual during a relationship when one finds a new person. I personally enjoy this song because of the upbeat tempo and the meaning of the lyrics. It’s a song that can be stuck in your head for a while because of the catchiness and tone of the song. My favorite part about this song are the lyrics. It is basically about finally finding your person, but then thinking about the negative parts to it including it ending by getting your heart broken. You can also see the personal connection, Dua Lipa has to the song, which makes it more meaningful. Overall, it is a good song to listen to!

"On My Own" by Shamir encourages people to love being independent. Shamir's voice is different from those of today's male pop singers, with a voice similar to Prince. The folk/indie sound of the song appeals to me because those categories are my go-to music type. The indie vibe of the song with Shamir's Prince-like voice is a match made in heaven. Besides the light-heartedness of the song, the lyrics are eerily relatable. The particular line, "Cause I don't mind to live all on my own" seems to go stem from the recent quarantine, despite the song being written before quarantine. I recommend everyone should listen to this song!

I picked the song “Dynamite” by BTS. I first heard this song on my local radio station which was a shock. This was the first time listening to a KPOP song on the most popular radio stations in Hawaii. I was instantly intrigued and my mood spiked in a positive way. This song consists of a rap verse and a catchy chorus both in English but clearly sung by Koreans. Their accents didn’t bother me as I thought it would. The catchy chorus is just the repetition of the word “dynamite!” which is simple but catchy. It’s not too corny but gets the job done as this song is clearly aimed to uplift the spirits of an audience and emit a groovy and cheery vibe. With reggae being my favorite genre of music, I was surprised to see how much I liked a Korean pop song. Overall, I enjoyed this song because of its positive element and catchy chorus.

I chose the song “Safaera” by Bad Bunny. He is a popular Puerto Rican rapper and singer. The music he makes is classified as Latin trap or reggaeton. I generally enjoy Latin music as well as Caribbean music and this song has many of the elements found in those categories. It is a dancing song. The energy of the music is bright and a little rowdy with a good beat and of course the voices of well known Latin artists. A large part of songs is usually the meaning and the words but not many people understand the Cuban slang that Bad Bunny uses. Regardless of this, the songs he produces are very popular with people all over the world because of the vibe it gives off and the sounds alone. I recommend his music to any person who enjoys the Latin genre but I don’t recommend looking up the words to this song. Maybe look up the words to “Yo Perreo Sola” which has a message of respecting women and no means no.

When looking through the list of songs, the song “Dynamite” by BTS really stood out to me because I have heard the song on the radio a lot and I always thought it was a really catchy and fun song, only to recently find out it is sung by BTS. I was really shocked when I found this out because I never really found myself liking Kpop, mainly because I did not see the point in listening to a song in a language you don’t know. I was surprised when I listened to the song after learning who the artist is and I realized that you can’t tell that the song is sung by Korean singers, because it sounds like an American pop song. Listening to this song made me wonder what other songs might be sung by BTS or a different group that I am unaware of. Overall, I think that the song “Dynamite” is a good song and was so popular because of its upbeat and happy tone, especially since when the song was released it was difficult time for everyone nationwide and needed a little happiness and fun.

The song I chose was "Hit Different" by SZA ft. Ty Dolla $ighn. both of these artist are very well known and have each produced multiple hit songs. SZA is strictly a singer with a beautiful voice and high vocal range. She mainly makes POP and R&B songs that make you wither wanna get up and dance or just sit down and relax. Ty Dolla $ighn is a rapper who can also sing. Although his vocal range is restricted to lower notes he still has a great voice and is enjoyable to listen to. The combination of these two artist styles is what helped make this song such a hit. It combines SZA higher range POP/R&B vocals with Ty Dolla $ighns more Hip Hop style singing. The beat the song is set to is a slower hip hop beat but the song still flows more like a slower POP song. I first heard this song on the social media app TikTok and I immediatly liked it. The song is about the struggles young people have with love and relationships and how confusing and painful love can be. Which makes this song so relatable to many listeners. The songs title "Hit Different" is a slang term that was recently made popular through TikTok. Its a phrase that can be used to describe someone or something in a good way. By saying something or someone "hits different" your saying that its special, unique and extremly good and appealing

I chose I Know The End by Phoebe Bridgers. It is the last song on her sophomore album Punisher that she released in June 2020. The first time I listened to the album I did not really notice this song, but then I heard an interview where Phoebe Bridgers explained the creative process behind the creation of the song and I was intrigued. I listened to it again and now its one of my favorite songs of hers. This song is captivating because it starts out slow and melodic but then about two and a half minutes in the tempo changes and the production grows louder and builds up to the ending. I love the end of the song, and of the album, because the last ting you hear is Phoebe Bridgers screaming herself hoarse.

I chose the song Dynamite by BTS because this group has been growing in popularity lately. This song is very cheerful and up beat, which is very popular amongst the younger listeners. This song has also been on many radio stations as well as commercials. It has a very catchy tune, and it’s also all in English which isn’t very common for K-pop artists. Despite this obstacle they managed to reach the ears of many people all over the world. Also the title of the song “Dynamite” really sticks with the listener because how many times the chorus reap eats in the song.

I chose “Dynamite” because of its happy and upbeat tone. The songs melody is really well done and matches the key of the song really well to create a positive vibe. The rhythm and melody of the “na-na-na-na-na” lines really go hand in hand and make this line a really catchy and memorable one that is sure to get your head bobbing. The beat and instrumentals are also very happy sounding. Even though I don’t really like K-pop or BTS’ music, I particularly enjoyed “Dynamite”. Overall the song is very catchy and uplifting.

  18. I chose the song “The Bigger Picture” by Lil Baby. He is one of my favorite artists in the trap music industry. His song featured in NPR Best Songs of 2020 was written in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. The song begins with news reporters covering the George Floyd incident. Being African American himself, Baby had a lot of emotions (particularly anger) regarding the movement. He talks about his experience in the criminal justice system and how he desires to change it. This song is him taking a stand against the unjust actions happening around him. This song was Lil Baby’s way of being apart of a peaceful protest. He speaks up about the truth of police brutality and racial injustice. The infamous BLM movement shows that people are aware that the system needs a change, but no significant modifications have been made yet. I like Baby’s song because it shows a sense of urgency and activism that many Americans can appeal to.

The song I chose was “We Paid” by Lil Baby and 42 Dugg. I chose this song because I am a big fan of Lil Baby’s and have been listening to his music for a couple years now. Listening to his new album “My Turn” was very gratifying for me as I could see how much he has grown as an artist even since I have been listening to him. But this song instantly caught my attention with it’s hypnotic and very catchy Hook and the high pitched flute part complements both artists verses Perfectly giving the song high replay value (at least for me).

I chose this song because it was one of the only songs that I knew on the entire NPR list. I also think that it has a really catchy beat and just sound overall, and this can be attributed to its simplicity. As far as the lyrics go it is something that you can expect from typical rap nowadays, and personally I like the song more for the beat than the actual vocals. I personally do not like lil baby’s sound and I can tolerate 42 Dugg, but once again nothing special, I think that the beat really carried this song. I think one of the main parts of this song would be the whistle that plays at the start, and I think that this was something that many people are not used to hearing on this kind of song so that was interesting and something that drew you in as well.
